Champion Tells Mendenhall "You're Fired"

The athletic apparel company Champion has severed endorsement ties with Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall. Companies place morality clauses in their contracts, which is a great business practice. The question is who  within the company sets the criteria in a endorsement deal. The action taken proves to me that companies can and will fire you for your private opinion.Mr. Mendenhall was acting as a private U.S. citizen when voicing his 1st Amendment rights.

Champion could have issued a disclaimer statement and moved on. This is an example of the big guys using their money and influence to stifle ones own views.

Sara Lee (the parent company of Champion) and its subsidiaries have been accused of labor rights violations in Honduras and El Salvador. If this is true, then I would like to ask who will enforce the morality clause against Champion.
